 These hand crafted Japanese teapots are made exclusively for Walker Tea by Japanese artist Nishi. These Japanese hand crafted artisan teapots are AMAZING! I was fortunate to find this traditional Japanese artist at our local art show. His name is Nishi and he creates these beautiful works of art that are functional to use but also beautiful to display. He is originally from Japan but now resides and creates his art in the USA. These teapots are a great addition to the teapot and tea kettle line at Walker Tea. Proper amounts: The teapot will hold approximately 20 oz. (590ml) of water (filtered is always best for great tea). A full teapot will make approximately (3) 6oz. (177ml) cups of great tea. Proper Use: Specialty loose leaf teas need LOTS of room for proper steeping. The last thing you want to do is to cram them in a little tea ball, throw them in a cup and then expect to get a great cup of tea. It just won't happen. These teapots are crafted with a built in strainer so the leaves have the entire teapot to float in and steep properly. The Japanese are traditionally known for their green teas so this style of teapot would work perfectly for whole leaf Sencha, Genmaicha, Gyokuro, Lung Ching, and Gunpowder teas. Of course black, Oolong, white, herbals, and fruit blends work equally well. Since you will be steeping the leaves directly in the pot it is important to completely pour out all of the tea after the appropriate steeping time is finished. Leaving the finished tea and the leaves in the pot too long will give your tea a bitter or unpleasant taste. Cleaning and care: Although these teapots are dishwasher safe, a true Japanese tea drinker would NEVER put their teapot in there! When you have finished your tea, rinse the teapot with warm water, towel dry, and leave lid off to air dry the interior. Just that simple. Traditional teapots are used usually for just one type of tea each so there is a "seasoning" effect to the pot with the residue that the leaves leave behind.
